The Ropes Course - Teamwork & Balance
Joe, along with the camp director Dennis, led us on a trek into the woods and through a few ropes course events. We were met with wire-walking, rope-swinging and balance-beam challenges...
Our first venture out on Saturday was shortened by rain. But a few of us were able to attempt the wire & rope walk, which coupled taking a slow, steady pace with trust in our teammates. Too bad only a few of us had a chance on this one, but the jog in the rain was fun!
On Sunday we first tried a rope-swinging exercise. We had to cross a "pit of sin and temptation" using only a rope that hung over the middle of the pit and whatever else was on us. After a few failed attempts, we learned that each of us had different talents and skills to utilize. When they were combined in an organized manner, we realized that working together as a team, and again trusting and relying on our teammates, would help us to overcome the obstacle.
Our final course event involved an elevated balance beam and two teams (check out the picture to the left). We had to start each team in a row on either side of the beam. Then we had to switch sides. And, we were sucessful! Another lesson in teamwork, and we also realized that we sometimes need to lean on our friends to maintain balance in our life. Whoa. Deep...
